but in this case, I have no choice! A roller coaster winter Michigan has seen bitter and balmy, and experts say this season’s range has been dramatic on mlive.com (unfortunately, the story is no longer available).
The gist of the story is focused on the problems ski areas are having, since it’s difficult to maintain slopes when the snow keeps melting. Is it global warming, or a natural correction of an earlier, unusually cold run of winters? The ice on Lake Michigan is receding, yet the average winter temperature has shown only minor upward movement. The big difference is the wider swings in temperature over the season this year and last.
While it’s hard on folks with lung problems (in addition to the skiers), for most of us, it’s nice to have one batch of snow melt before the next arrives. This year seems colder to me than last, but that may be a result of the warm days being more scattered through the season. Today is a warm day (really warm, likely in the high 50s) and the deck is already nearly clear of snow. Don’t ask what’s predicted later this week.

Vicki – I think I’ll give up snow.
mon@rch – I drove home in freezing mix, after watching rain and snow alternate all afternoon. Ugly, to say the least. We will really appreciate spring when it gets here.
we are having flooding right now and with the thunder that I just heard, should mean the mix freezing rain should be hitting us now! WOw, what a winter!
Chicago is getting hit with snow tonight but even that hasn’t been a good predictor of what moves East this year. My neighbors keep me informed…
Meanwhile we are consistently sunny, 75 days, 60 nights. What can I say? Wish I had a paczki. Before your time there was a store on the corner of Packard and Stadium (Food and Drug Mart. Baby Daniel called it Foo n Gug so we did, too) that brought paczki from Hamtramack on Fat Tuesday. The real deal. Oh, yum.
And what are you giving up starting tomorrow? Oh. Right. Well, I think I’ll give up crab.
