The Sandhill Cranes are standing in the wetland. Snow is accumulating on their backs. What’s wrong with this picture?

Oh, Mark, I am so tired of snow, and I don’t have it piling up on my back!
I am sure their mood is similar to many Michiganders!
Mary – they could have dropped a postcard. I would have been glad to send them some.
Jochen – When I interviewed here, it was warm and clear skies the entire time. False advertising!
brucesc – You’d think they’d go stand under a tree or something, rather than accumulate snow, wouldn’t you? I’ll bet they were wishing they were in China on a visit instead of Michigan!
Poor cranes!! I’m sure they weren’t expecting this! Great Oriental looking picture though.
Ha, I know what’s wrong with it: the Mallard drakes are missing their ladies!
Wren, when I first came to Ann Arbor for a 4 week holiday (my wife was doing a 3 months internship) in May 2005, the days were so cold I cursed my stupidity of not taking gloves along, I had to brave sleet and daytime temperatures not very far above freezing and not a single neotropical migrant was around. I already prepared myself for leaving North America afte 4 weeks of May birding with nothing ut a few Butterbutts and a Yellow Warbler. Turns out I encountered 36 species of warbler in the end!
All will be fine!
The poor cranes…going that far just to find snow. I hope it warms up for you soon. Good picture!
Mary – I agree, it’s time for spring.
Wren,
I have NEVER heard of such a relentless winter. Even here in Charlotte, while the days might reach 70 (just a few) we’re experiencing overnight freezes.
Puzzling…
I wish you warm breezes…
Mary
tom – it’s a record year. Didn’t Mark Twain say, “if it weren’t for the honor …”
larry – I’m sorry. I’d lift the “curse of the cranes” if I could.
mon@arch – if this is spring, I want a refund!
mary – I assume the cranes are eating okay. There’s open water and I see them and lots of ducks and geese fishing away, apparently sucessfully.
leigh – welcome! We’re looking forward to some 50 degree weather here, someday. I can only hope this long cold winter means a cooler summer as well.
The snow on their backs makes me cold just looking at it! Here in Arkansas it’s cooled off to the 50s this week and I feel like it’s cold! Thank you for your AMAZING photos and blog. I really loved the before/after pictures of your garden/habitats – really inspiring!
Those cranes must be thinking or saying: What was I thinking!? Coming north this soon. Seriously, are the cranes finding enough food while waiting out the weather?
LOL, what’s wrong with the picture . . . it’s spring! Ugg
What’s wrong with this picture? I didn’t take it-that’s what’s wrong. The Sandhill Crane is becoming my “Bogey Bird”!
Wren-
I’m sick of the snow and it sure looks like these cranes are sick of it it too!
Tom
