A few days ago, this is what I saw.

Not long after, Mr Wren remarked that he had seen them out of the nest and jockeying for position on the beam. Sure enough, next day I saw one of the youngsters on the top side of the deck.

Proud parent nearby keeping watch.

Although apparently both fledged, I’ve only seen one adult and one juvenile feeding. Perhaps they spread out geographically for better foraging?

fishing guy – I like looking back, too. Sometimes I worry that I will start repeating myself, because really, a robin is a robin is a robin, right? But this year’s babies are just as interesting and delightful as last years.

Wren: Your idea of what to show must be quite similar. I see a lot of shots that I have also captured when going through your old blogs. I guess that is why i enjoyed the back blogs.

larry – that is so true – I feel like I’ve adopted them.

It’s nice to be able to follow a family of birds like that.it’s sort of interesting how different humans are from birds yet there still is a connection.

kathie, I agree. That short little tail is just too cute.

Wren, I love the photo of the baby with the fluffy bustle!

Vicki – basil color? You need to adjust your monitor. :) Seriously, not great light, and cloudy because taken through the sliding glass door. NB: In the interest of lessening the number of bird strikes, I do not clean my windows (Surely, a little rain schmutz is preferable to dead birds. No, really, I’m serious about this.) and when I opened the door, momma bird freaked and baby birds hunkered down in the nest out of sight. Uncooperative little devils!

Ann – yes, it’s under the deck. Repeat performance from last year.

For the people – it took these guys so long to hatch, I was beginning to fear the nest had failed, and then there they were.

For The People June 29, 2008 at 9:45 pm

Wow, those are some great photos! Have a nest under my carport but not hatched yet!

The first photo, (under the deck?) is marvelous. Baby Robins have such an innocence about themselves. Lovely pictures.

Hooray! Fledglings! And the top photo has sort of a, um, pleasant basil color cast. Nice picture.

Our urban bunnies are real head bangers- I have one who is butting his head against a brick I shoved under the iron grate gate to try and block his access to the earth box lettuce. This sets Sophie into hysterics and it’s all quite wild.

mon@rch – bird babies are such fun to watch, aren’t they?

mon@rch June 29, 2008 at 2:31 pm

Such adorable baby robins!

Wren June 29, 2008 at 2:01 pm

Julie – thanks – I am definitely with you on the grill chasing.

sandpiper – they just make you go awwwhhh!, don’t they? I’m sure it’s good for our souls.

Sandpiper (Lin) June 29, 2008 at 10:16 am

Oh, how sweet! I love your pictures. I’m having a ball watching all the baby birds being fed outside my window.

Julie June 29, 2008 at 7:56 am

Agreed – something transcend species, one of these is parenthood and our reaction to it.

I liked your post the other day about swallows. They are an entrancing bird. Not so keen on chasing the grill around to paddock to catch a steak though.

That photo of mama robin makes me think of what a human mama looks like when her young ones “fledge.” Am I humanizing that bird?

Wren June 28, 2008 at 2:09 pm

jayne, I feel very parental toward them!

Jayne June 28, 2008 at 11:47 am

Awwww…..sweeeeet!
