skywatch: it’s good to be back home

The first thing I saw on returning home was a praying mantis perched on our door. It looked to be quite young, based on its size and color. To me, this was a good omen and great welcome. If crickets are harbingers of good luck, surely praying mantises bode even better.

This first photo was taken from inside the house, looking out, with the sky as a backdrop.

These next two were taken from outside looking in, with the sky reflected in the door.

Tell me, oh mantis, for what do you pray?

Why I pray for prey, of course!

Happy Skywatch, everyone! Enjoy, and visit the rest of the Skywatch posts when they are posted at 7:30 GMT today.

Next week, Wrenaissance Reflections will have a double-feature Thursday. Skywatch as usual plus I and the Bird, the the world’s best Blog Carnival.

Yes, Wrenaissance Reflections is hosting I and the Bird. Our theme will be “The Joy of Birds” and any blog post that reflects what you love about birds or birding would be a good candidate for inclusion. Whether it’s a story or a photo, whether your response is LOL, ROFL, or a mysterious smile, send it along. Mike has challenged me to present an I and the Bird for the ages. I love a challenge, but I need your help to do this. Don’t let me down.

Send your links to wrenaissance DOT woman AT gmail DOT com by 9/2 for the 9/4 edition.
