The first thing I saw on returning home was a praying mantis perched on our door. It looked to be quite young, based on its size and color. To me, this was a good omen and great welcome. If crickets are harbingers of good luck, surely praying mantises bode even better.
This first photo was taken from inside the house, looking out, with the sky as a backdrop.
These next two were taken from outside looking in, with the sky reflected in the door.
Happy Skywatch, everyone! Enjoy, and visit the rest of the Skywatch posts when they are posted at 7:30 GMT today.
Next week, Wrenaissance Reflections will have a double-feature Thursday. Skywatch as usual plus I and the Bird, the the world’s best Blog Carnival.
Yes, Wrenaissance Reflections is hosting I and the Bird. Our theme will be “The Joy of Birds” and any blog post that reflects what you love about birds or birding would be a good candidate for inclusion. Whether it’s a story or a photo, whether your response is LOL, ROFL, or a mysterious smile, send it along. Mike has challenged me to present an I and the Bird for the ages. I love a challenge, but I need your help to do this. Don’t let me down.
Send your links to wrenaissance DOT woman AT gmail DOT com by 9/2 for the 9/4 edition.

thanks, everybody, and welcome to all my fellow skywatchers. Be sure to come back next week for the double feature!
And in case you’re curious, the plural of mantis is mantises. It seems like it should be more complicated, but perhaps confusing us about whether it’s praying or preying was enough for one insect.
Oh, yes! These are wonderful. Welcome home!
At first I thought the cricket was hanging in air!! Dumb me!
Beautiful shot of the sky with the cricket
I haven’t seen one this year at all. That can’t be a good omen..
Unusual and very fine pictures.
Beautiful Sky Watch.
Pietro Brosio Gallery
I meant Gallicissa’s site, of course.
Well done! Love the inside and outside, and the sky is beautiful in each. Nice Sky Watch.
An aside: I’ve just discovered “I and the Bird” through Gallicia’s site. Fascinating. I know that you’ll do a wonderful job with the compilation! I’ll be checking back to see it.
Ah, the praying mantis is an interesting critter… I haven’t seen one for a few years… what a great capture!
Mountain Retreat
When I first saw this I thought it was a modern sculpture in the background! Boy I need to get my eyes checked lol! I haven’t seen a praying mantis for quite a while now.
Thanks for your visit and comments on my SWF photos!
I am fascinated by the praying mantis and what a neat shot you’ve taken here. Great photo!
Great captures, Wren! Love the first photo, he looks like he’s suspended in mid-air.
I like the inside/outside views. Now I need to think about finding something for “I and the Bird” IF I can!
Unique Sky Watch post! I’m sure the praying mantis must be a lucky omen.
Beautiful sky reflections!
I love these shots! I had to grin when I saw it. I’m actually happy too that I’ve never seen one that big. I’ve just seen the little ones or maybe they were babies and that was a few years back, haven’t seen one since.
Wow, great pictures!
Wren, great shots of the mantis. And good luck on I and the Bird. I may just see if I have anything to contribute.
don;t think I’ve ever seen a praying mantis before – great photos.
Very different! Great shot! I though the first image was of a sculpture against the sky, but then quickly realized it was the insect on the window. Nicely done! I just posted my first contribution to SkyWatch. A stark contrast to yours. Hope you will stop by.
Good chance and beautiful praying mantis and sky shots.
What a neat take on SWF, I like seening something different.
I agree that it’s lucky to have a preying mantis alive and well in the garden. The first shot looks almost like a sculpture…at least at first glance. LOL
Very cool sky-shots. I love it:)
Nice catch! You were very lucky and we’re happy that you share this with us.
Now that is unique…I like it!!
That’s a great shot, the middle one is my favourite and I think the included skyline really makes the gives the image a solid point of reference. Great SWF! Thank you for stopping by Photonic Harmony, all the best, Andy.
