Despite these photos of a Madagascar Fody (Foudia madagascariensis), I ventured no further than Cleveland, and the city’s Botanical Gardens, over Labor Day.
I keep a list of my zoo birds, with zoo loosely defined as any collection of captive animals. Birds in zoos, aquaria, rehab facilities, and other non-natural habitats are included in this category. Since I’m not keeping a competitive life list, I want to have a record of what I’ve seen, and where. Particularly now that I have so many photos, I want to be able to identify the birds in the photos. Is it the same as traipsing through the jungle, as a sport or as an experience? No. But being realistic it’s the only way I’ll see many of these lovely creatures, and I don’t love them any less for that.

Thanks, neal.
Very interesting!
Thanks, donna. A good time was had by all, apparently including the bird.
WoW! Wonderful picture! I Love the Redbird!
What can I say, Klaus? Check a zoo near you
Dave – isn’t he great? The other possibility was that he was a fire-red finch. I was hoping that was the case, because I thought it was a really cool name.
What a beautiful bird. Looks like a Scarlet Tanager!
Waoh – what a cool bird! How come you guys up north get all the colorful birds – and I got stuck with black and white down here?
Not fair!
Cheers, Klaus
