skywatch friday: i and the grackle

Welcome, bird bloggers and skywatchers. This is Skywatch for Friday, September 5. I and the Bird #83 is the immediately previous post.

This photo was taken at Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, in spring 2003. The two grackles are perched on giant orange-colored letters that are part of a sign proclaiming some business – I think it was Thrasher’s fries, but I’m not positive about that – and the blue behind them is (of course) the perfect blue sky of that spring day. There were lots of grackles around that weekend, and BFF Judy heard more about them and in more detail than she ever wanted to. But that’s what friends are for, right?

Skywatch is a meme, a communal sharing, of photos of the sky from around the world. It’s just-for-fun, not-for-profit, and noncompetitive. To participate, blog a photo which includes the sky, then add its link to the master list at the Skywatch website. Enjoy, and visit the rest of the Skywatch posts when they are posted at 7:30 GMT today.

PS Don’t forget IATB#83, below.

Wren, cool shot. I love the color combo of blue, reddish, and Grackle. :)

Wren, that is one artistic photgraph. I like the contrast of colors with the black birds. Grackles are interesing but I hope they don’t move into my neighborhood. I did see 3 fly overhead this morning. I’d rather they stay in the city. We have great-tailed grackles down here and what a ruckus they make!

Hello Wren, lovely SkyWatch photo, the sign with the grackles are a fun addition to a perfectly blue sky. Thanks for visiting my blog.

Ah, a birder! I’m definitely in the amature class when it comes right down to it, but I really love this — even if it is of grackles!

Thank you for your welcome!
I love the colours of your picture, the contrast to the sky. And then the black silhouettes of the grackles. Beautiful!

Good shot and subject. Good chance to shot.

Terrific shot! Grackles always strike me as a little humorous for some reason, I think it’s they way the often sit and stare at the sky – although one of yours seems to have spotted a stray french fry in the parking lot -? Only thing that could have been better is if brown thrashers had been sitting there…

Lovely sky and nice birds. I did Grackles a week ago for photo hunter. I think they are beautiful in their appearance at times.

Interesting image. You could call it “Grackles On Guard.”

Very unique SWF photo, Wren. Love the grackles and the orange really stands out against the sky. Well done!
