my world #5: a city of trees

If you’ve read my bio, you know I self identify as a nature lover and tree hugger. No surprise then, that I live in a place that also identifies itself in those terms.

It’s gray today. It’s cold, it’s snowing and raining, and our favorite local college team lost. Not just lost, embarrassed themselves. What better time to think instead of last June and the “Taste of” festival. So, here’s a glimpse of a local festival on Main Street back in the warm and sunny summertime.

Great your World and the blog.

Wren November 18, 2008 at 4:23 pm

I think I’m going to have to dig out all my fairy door photos for a future MyWorld post.

What a fun post when the weather is cold and blustery! Festivals are always so colorful.

What a fun & festive day in town! Enjoyed the images.

I like how you set up the images; looks like you used the WordPress image gallery. In general, your blog looks more like a website! Well done.

Looks like everyone is having fun!

Oh, a lovely festival with dancing in the street… love that… and fairy doors, how fun!!! Never heard of fairy doors before actually.

Great diversity to show so much from your location.

great collection of photos…the street pole flag is very nice. i love that cities are using the street banners/flags more and more. they add such a nice touch to a town/city.

have a wonderful week.

Robot repairs, I love that. Great post :)

Trees grow a lot better when hugged, so do people. Nice cheerful place, at least in the summer time. I bet it’s pretty good now too although a bit cooler.

Robot Supply and Repair? That’s a new one on me, but I LOVE the very idea of it. Nice, memorable post.

I could send you some sunshine but it’s a little smoky right now. :-) I like street fairs. This one looks like it was pretty nice.

I can certainly empathise with your weather, except we don’t have any snow. Actually, today was warm and sunny but that’s not usually the case mid-November. Love your shots of the festival and it’s a good thing we can look back and reminisce during these dreary days!

I love college towns and Ann Arbor looks like a happenin’ kinda place. I’m a folkie and I’m sure I’d be hanging out at the Ark on a regular basis. But do tell me about fairy doors. I find that intriguing.

Wren November 17, 2008 at 10:39 pm

LOL – I hadn’t made the connection between trees and wooden boats! This is a music ark, however, and is actually a pretty well-known folk music venue.

Ann Arbor (“A2″ to the locals) is indeed an interesting place to live. The population on the whole tend to be nature lovers and lean left politically. We just had an exhibit and programming on the year 1968 in Ann Arbor. The spirit of that time lives on in many ways, though it’s more peaceful now.

Bears bearing chocolate, robot repair, and fairy doors – your world is much more interesting than mine!

I found it a little ironic to see ‘trees are always in fashion’ by an establishment called ‘The Ark’. :)

babooshka November 17, 2008 at 8:22 pm

I don’t hug trees, but do like to take care of them. Great seriess of images.

Laughing Orca Ranch November 17, 2008 at 6:59 pm

I’m a tree hugger, too. Ironically, my post today is about trees. The New Mexico State Tree to be exact….and the nuts that they give us :)

That bear bearing chocolate made me smile, by the way. :)

Thanks for a view of your world today,

Sylvia Kirkwood November 17, 2008 at 5:31 pm

I agree, it is a fun post and photos! Love the bear! and I’m a tree lover, too. Thanks for sharing, this was fun!

Ewok November 17, 2008 at 3:57 pm

You have a robot repair shop!!!!!

Cool shots. I love festivals like this one.

I love trees too and I did hug a tree. Would hug one every chance I get.

Carver November 17, 2008 at 4:57 pm

Fun post and shots. Looks like my kind of place.

Liza Lee Miller November 17, 2008 at 10:44 am

Very cool post. Ann Arbor looks like a great town. Love the huge bear! :)

Fishing Guy November 17, 2008 at 10:35 am

Wren: What a neat group of shots from around the area. Now your team has to play you know who when they are really down. This coming weekend will be real exciting for both Michigan teams in the Big 10.
