I get distracted easily, but as I recall, not too long ago I was sharing photos from our trip of a lifetime to Alaska. In this one, you see the sky behind the Anchorage visitor center. I love the green, growing roof.
This was the first day we were in the state, having arrived downtown around 11 the previous evening and had our first experience of the very long Alaska daylight in mid-June. Lots of skies to be watched then and there.
Here are a couple more pics of the visitor center.
Skywatch is a meme, a communal sharing, of photos of the sky from around the world. It’s just-for-fun, not-for-profit, and noncompetitive. To participate, blog a photo which includes the sky, then add its link to the master list at the Skywatch website. Enjoy, and visit the rest of the Skywatch posts when they are posted at 7:30 GMT today.

Hello, everyone, and thanks for stopping by. I’m a little behind, having had the Internet connection crap out on me twice – though I think Mr Wren has beaten it into submission and connectivity now and forever. Keep your collective online fingers crossed for me!
What a beautiful way to welcome visitors. I would love to have a roof like that! I’m sure it keeps the inside well insulated. We went camping over Thanksgiving so I’m late making the rounds. Have a great weekend.
I like all of these pictures. However, the one with the tree shadows really appeals. Thank you for sharing.
lol! Love that dancing moose. That grass covered welcome center is amazing! It must have alot of strength to carry the weight of all that dirt, plus snow. I wonder if roots are ever a problem…or earth worms! lol!
Great photos, thanks!
Happy Sky Watch Friday!

The green growing roof reminds me of the Norway pavilion in EPCOT/Walt Disney World. In the spring, EPCOT hosts the International Flower & Garden Festival, and Norway plants wild flowers and grasses on the roof it their pavilion. It’s a very pleasing use of roof space!

Greetings from Juneau, Alaska!
I’m so glad to hear that you enjoyed your trip to Alaska.
I can’t wait to see more of your photos.
I’ve been to Alaska three times. The first two times it is such a surprise to have daylight way into the night. The last trip was on January 1. Guess what, there was hardly any day. What extremes. I invite you to come see my Coastal BC sunrise and sunset. – Margy
Green stuff on the roof is so funny that it makes the moose dance. Thanks for sharing that strange house.
A wonderful log house. Very nice.
I love the look of Sod roofs, and they also make alot of sense to use in so many other Living “Green” sort of Ways.
This post was very interesting! I love the green roof…I’ve never seen such a thing but have heard of it. Excellent blog!
I do love that grassy roof!
That is so cool. Read an Article about this kind of roof and they’re very ecological. Great shots, must have been a wonderful trip.
I like the idea of green roofs, and like this particular expression even more.
I love that roof! I’ll bet it’s warm inside. Oh, it’s probably cool in the summer.
Wonderful shots and I love the roof that’s filled with growing plants.
Oh my I like them all very much. the wildflowers are so lovely and the moose is very cute!! But the first one is so very interesting and also simply wonderful!!
Happy SWF:-)
Also Happy Thanksgiving. I hope your day was blessed with an abundance!!
Now that is a roof to combine with a sky ! Don’t get me started on the advantages of a vegetation roof
I love the 1st one!
Yeah, yeah I see the sky…….those flowers as way so beautiful.
These are great, loved the glimpse of Alaska! Who wouldn’t want pretty flowers growing on their roof!
The state of Alaska is so beautiful, isn’t it? Happy Thanksgiving, Wren! Very nice Skywatch.
