Unfortunately, my birds photos didn’t turn out as good as I would have liked, but they’re unique, so I include them anyway.
Worst Photo ever of a Willow Ptarmigan

Ok, you take a photo through a dirty bus window while the bus is moving and see how good it is.

Magpie in the wild

As a fellow traveler observed, “They’re everywhere.”

Harlequin Ducks

Cool, eh?

Mary, sometimes it’s better to be lucky than talented. :)

Christopher, I’m glad you can actually see the bird. It takes some looking … but no way I wasn’t going to try to get a photo, no matter how blurred.

Liza Lee, the ducks are very relaxed aren’t they? Especially since the fox in the previous post wasn’t far from there.

Too cute. Love those Harlequin ducks.

Happy New Year Wren!
I’ve been especially enjoying the posts about Alaska – my wife and I went in September on our honeymoon. You “Worst Photo ever of a Willow Ptarmigan” through a dirty bus window has got me really jealous – we didn’t see a single one on our trip! (Apparently we were there during the two weeks of the year when they are not ‘everywhere’) :P
Cheers!

I would definitely include these photos, too – especially if they are lifers! I’d love to see a willow ptarmigan, and harlequin ducks. I have a feeling I’ll see the ducks before I see a ptarmigan in my lifetime. Happy New Year, Wren!

Yes, and I am jealous!

Jayne, do you think it’s true that the best bird is the most recent one?

George, thanks!

Wren, I didn’t realize how colorful the Harlequin Ducks are. Thanks for all your photographs and I look forward to more in 2009.

Oh, those are SOOOOO cool!

Lynne, I liked the ducks, too. These were taken several years ago, and I think I’ve gotten better in the interim.

Dave, Thanks!

Happy New Year, and a wish for more pics like these in ’09!

Lynne at Hasty Brook December 31, 2008 at 5:34 pm

I have lots of those windshield pix too!
Those Harlequin Ducks are so neat!

Wren December 31, 2008 at 5:23 pm

Thanks, Sandy – these were tougher than most, but it was still worthwhile having a record of what I saw.

SandyCarlson December 31, 2008 at 5:10 pm

These are really lovely. Birds are tough subjects, and your view is always refreshing!

Swamp4me, thanks! I’m glad you’re enjoying the tour.

Betsy, I’m so glad you like them. The ducks were photographed from the bridge over the river and bank where they were sitting. Not exactly up close, but any closer and they would have flown away.

I enjoyed the Alaskan bird pictures, Wren… The last picture is really good. Their colors are SO pretty.

Happy New Year.
Hugs,
Betsy

Very cool, indeed! I like your pics — sort of like really being there with you.
