I thought that was a great title, until I realized that there was no way I could create a David Letterman-like countdown list. First, it would be impossible to pick only 10 things from so many wonderful memories. Second, it would do all involved an injustice to imply that one wonderful experience was better than another when they were all so great. So here, in no particular order, are some of the things I treasure about my week in West Virginia.
and I haven’t even finished Monday!
My fellow flockers, friends, and bloggers attending the festival have already begun sharing their stories and photos, and from all of us together you should have a full and vibrant picture of the week. You can visit their blogs, and you won’t be sorry:

Mary, I love that photo of Kathie, too. It brings back good memories of all the fun we had.
TR, are you sure the sun was really shining? Photoshop works wonders.
Irene, so nice to meet you both. I’ll look forward to the launch of your blog!
Deborah, I say “bird nerds,” too. As long as we’re having fun, who cares? Sending good vibes for indigo buntings your way.
Lynne, thanks!
Glennis, I’ve watched banding previously but never participated. Even so, I know what you mean about the feelings from being that close to and involved with these precious living creatures.
Nina, Like you and TR, I’m trying to remind myself that some sunshine as well as some rain comes to us all. Surely it will be our turn for sun soon.
Those pictures of birds in the hand are priceless–just another one of many wonderful memories of a week at New River!
I can almost feel that sunshine as we watched the banding–now turned to a rainy day at home.
I used to go out mist netting and banding captured birds, it wa sso exciting seeing just what you had caught in the net, then weighing and banding and holding a small trembling bird in your hands was amazing.
These are lovely photo memories for you of the sweet birds you held.
Happy birding to you.
I agree with Mary- that picture of Kathie is priceless.
Love the pictures and the links, too! I’m concentrating (face all squinched up) on having an indigo bunting at my feeder this year. Xing my fingers, too. Alos neat to see all you “bird nerds” (my friend’s daughter made that up) together, having fun!
Great pictures and great birding with you! Saul says “Same here”!
I hope to start a blog but i am not sure how to start so I will keep visiting yours for ideas!

Excellent post! Great pictures – I forgot what the place looked like with sun!
Great post, Wren. That photo of Kathie releasing the sparrow is so touching and just perfect.
