bird photography weekly: accipiter species
There’s nothing birders like better than a difficult identification, right? Here’s a challenge for you! I’ve previously posted this photo, though not for BPW (Ready for my closeup, February 25, 2008). Opinions varied, though I’m still calling it as a Sharpie.

sublime vs. ridiculous
Yesterday started bright, warm, and sunny. The perfect complement to the weather: a male Common Yellowthroat landed on my deck rail and sang for a few minutes. Beautiful, both sight and sound.
Of course, the second I thought about my camera, he flew away. However, not all our wildlife encounters were so shy and hard to photograph. Here’s the very stationary result of a nightly raccoon prowl.
And that’s life with wildlife.
