hawaiian birdwatching

in birds

I had one morning in Hawaii to go birding, so I met up with Oahu Nature Tours and went off to see as many of  Oahu’s  birds as possible. Nine lifers – more than I expected, having been to Oahu once before. Mike (owner as well as guide) was knowledgeable not only about birds but also about the flora, fauna, ecology, and history of the island. He’s a dedicated conservationist, accomplished photographer, and all-round nice guy.

Lifers

John, I’m glad your experience with Oahu Nature Tours was positive as well. Mike is a nice guy and knows a lot about the islands.

Kathie, there were others I wasn’t as successful photographic, but they were as lovely as these if not more so – the photographer’s version of “the one that got away.”

I have also gone into the field with Oahu Nature Tours. Their staff is excellent and very accommodating to your individual bird watching goals.

scienceguy, you are so right. Nothing like this in Michigan!

Ebie, thank you. The birds are beautiful and I’m glad I could capture a little of that beauty.

You got a great eye for capturing these shots! Superb. The birds are just so beautiful!

Quite a different experience, I am sure. Much different terrain, much different birds.

Esther, you must have many wonderful birds there, different from what I usually see. That’s the fun part of birding when I travel.

Con, Kauai is my favorite island. I wasn’t able to get there this trip but have fond memories of a previous visit.

Deborah, I have a small life list – that’s why it’s easy to get lots of new birds on every trip. And fortunately for any future growth, I have the ability to carry it all electronically. Much easier on the back and shoulders!

Wow, that’s impressive! You must have to tote your Life List around in a wheelbarrow, LOL! Enjoyed the view of such ‘far-from-home’ species!

Colorful birds and nice photos. I always enjoy reading your travel posts. Hawaii is on my “must visit someday” list as I’ve a friend on Kauai.

So many beautiful birds! We have a similar parakeet here in Niger, the African ring-necked one. It’s so beautiful!
