Yesterday started bright, warm, and sunny. The perfect complement to the weather: a male Common Yellowthroat landed on my deck rail and sang for a few minutes. Beautiful, both sight and sound.
Of course, the second I thought about my camera, he flew away. However, not all our wildlife encounters were so shy and hard to photograph. Here’s the very stationary result of a nightly raccoon prowl.
And that’s life with wildlife.

Gerald, that makes two of us.
Scienceguy, at least it doesn’t run away when I get out my camera.
The aftermath is a rather gloomy sight.
leaving their mark is the natural way of things but I’m glad we don’t do it.
Deborah – I’m happy as long as it’s outside the house. I’ve had two raccoon adventures, one resulting in a new chimney liner and house fumigation for fleas and the other in raccoon eviction, a lot of cleanup, and securing the eaves to keep the [bleeps] out of the attic.
Darn, I still think they’re cute!
Raccoons here poop on my roof…not sure if that’s the good news or the bad…it ends up accumulating there ’til the elements break it down or a good wind blows up, whichever comes first
Dawn – Yeah, a whole empty backyard, and my deck’s the raccoon toilet.
Michele – I don’t see them often, but a few days ago one walked across our deck in broad daylight, stopping to peer in the door. I’m told that’s a sign it’s most likely a mother hunting food for hungry kits.
We seem to have a lot of those fellows roaming around here causing lots of mischief… but I have yet to see one….
LOL…good one! Much easier than fleeting bird…I have taken many a animal poo picture in my time..
