skywatch
I planned to go out after work and take photos of the yard, the flowers blooming in the butterfly garden, and the variety of birds and wildlife wandering through the yard. Of course, it rained as soon as I left work. On the way out to parking, I took this photo of one of the buildings near my office with my phone. It didn’t really capture what I found interesting in the arrangement of posts on top of the building, but it does show the sky.
Sometimes, life – and photography – is like that.

bird photography weekly: retrospective lifer
I’m not sure how this happened.
As you know from the many photos I’ve shared here, Mr Wren and I took an Alaskan vacation in the summer of 2004. In the course of going back through my photos from the trip and linking them to my list in Birdstack, I found I had counted the great-crested cormorants, but not the pelagic cormorants. So, five years after the fact, I’ve increased my life list by one.

skywatch, with common yellowthroat
I saw this species in the backyard for the first time last year. I’ve seen him twice this year so far, including once on the deck rail – but not at an angle good for photography. So these distance shots will have to do for now.
