Dawn, Fishing Guy – It was like watching toddlers learn to walk. Once they get the hang of it, you forget they ever had a problem or lacked coordination.
Love that image…so busy. Looks like the one on the left had a nose first landing. But a landing just the same! Love these guys. Amazing what they have to learn so rapidly…ranks up there with hummingbird juveniles!
They could fly (I guess I’m stating the obvious, since they were perched on the deck rail) but were very awkward. I’m not sure how they learn so quickly either, but after that first day, I haven’t seen them sitting and being fed by parents, so they must have gotten better at it.

Wren: That one is staying out of that squabble.
LOL..perfect !
I thought he was sending a message to the others … like a highlander raising his kilt.
FC, our midwestern swallows are much more polite than that.
Besides, I suspect that if he’d intended that, it wouldn’t have worked so well. When I took the photo, they were still in the “oops” stage.

Ouch! Looks like a rather bad landing.
They mastered flying rather quicker than landing, with perching somewhere in between.
Practicing its breakdancing moves?
I suspect it was practicing landing, though I was focused on the feeding action at the time.
