my world: barn swallow line

We were blessed this weekend with a visitation of swallows. These are five of the barn swallows (four are fledglings) who perched on our deck railing. Spread out further along the deck were a few more fledglings – I counted as many as seven at once. I think there were two clutches as I saw at least three parents feeding them at various times.

In the background, you can see the wetlands and a bit of the golf course that abut our yard. This is the best part of my world, the wildness that provides nature and wildlife a habitat, and us a closer encounter with it. My world is their home, as well as my own.

Thanks, FG – it was a treat for me, too.

Great that you caught all of those swallows still at one time.

I’m not sure I did – I think the camera shutter just clicked at the right second.

Wren, you have a lovely view!

Wren July 7, 2009 at 10:29 pm

A bit wetter than what you see out your windows, isn’t it?

Even the mosquitoes are worth it for times like this!

Thank you all for stopping by and for sharing my joy in the swallows. I do realize how extraordinary it was to have this extended opportunity to observe them, and revel in it.

We have plenty of birds around our little compound and I donot know their names. The only one I can tell is the Rainbow Lorikeets. It’s really nice to be surrounded by birds and listening to their own stories though we cannot understand their language. But their music is just too compelling to ignore. You are blessed to be visited by these wonderful creatures.

The same thing as I like about my world, 500 acres under my care all around me. Love your swallows, it is so nice when they nest under the eaves and bring their babies to show then off.

For someone who lives in the city, your world is a breath of fresh air to mine. Would love to have those birds as my visitors:) My world entry is up too.

I love Barn Swallows! The can dive bomb and still miss your head if you show some respect and back off! And their colors are spectacular.
