No, not crocodiles. Much smaller.

I believe these are a type of monitor, but I’m not a lizard expert. (Update: commenters’ consensus is that this is a dragon, not a monitor. The water dragon looks right to me, but so did the bearded dragon. What do you think?) Australians and zoologists are cordially invited to share their knowledge. After all, my world is full of wondrous things I enjoy, but can’t identify. Isn’t yours?

What a funny looking guy
So pre-historic looking.
If we didn’t know there was a real Australia, would we believe these animals existed?
Looks like a Bearded Dragon to me. I grew up in Brisbane and caught several in the countryside around there. They tend to stand their ground although they are not easily caught. The goanna, a monitor, will tend to take off at a high rate of speed.
These guys could hustle. They were pretty comfortable with people milling around, but would accelerate as needed to get away from being touched.
Wren: Very cute critter for sure.
Quick and relatively tame. We were warned not to hassle them, more for their protection than ours.
Not a bearded dragon but in the same family (Agamidae). It’s a water dragon, Physignathus lesueurii. (I may have been a bit over-zeaous with the vowels there.) Very handsome lizards from the east coast.
Snail, that looks spot on from the pictures on google images. Thanks.
Amazing critter.
Fun to watch.
Thanks for the suggestions. I think the bearded dragon is correct, especially since they are common in Australia, and these guys were all over the place.
This is some kind of Chameleon.
Looks like a bearded dragon to me.
