Nature Bloggers, our pride is at stake. Seed Media Science Bloggers and Discover Science Bloggers are raising money for classrooms through DonorsChoose.org (a Charity Navigator 4 star organization). So is the Nature Blog Network. As you might expect, this confluence of events is leading to a blog smackdown.
Are we going to let those lab rats beat out us fun-loving, tree hugging, nature nuts? No way! Trot yourself over to my Giving Page, http://www.donorschoose.org/donors/viewChallenge.html?id=24325, to Bug Girl’s Insect Challenge 2009, add one of our widgets to your blog, or start your own giving page, but make a donation to support a classroom project, a teacher, and most of all, kids who want to learn. No matter which project you support, the kids win. NBN bragging rights, no matter how much fun, are secondary.
From DonorsChoose:
By way of background, DonorsChoose.org is an online charity connecting individuals, like you, to classrooms in need. The average public school teacher spends $500 – $700 on classroom supplies out of his/her own pocket, and students still go without critical supplies they need to learn. This website provides an easy way for everyday people to address this problem. People like you can choose which projects to fund and then get photos and thank-you letters from the classroom.
The second part of this is that I’m choosing to start by listing projects which are in support of teachers who are nature bloggers and NBN members. The first project is already listed, but I’ll add more if you send me the link to your classroom project and your NBN blog info. I won’t connect the two publicly, but it’s fine if you do so.
The challenge runs the month of October, but why wait? Together, we can nurture the next generation of tree huggers like us!
