skywatch at the sandia peak tram station

Surprise! I’ve been in Albuquerque and DC for meetings. It was my first visit to Albuquerque since the early 90′s, and I didn’t get to see as much of the city and surroundings as I would have liked. Still, I did get out to ride the super long, super high tram that takes you to the top of Sandia Peak. At 10,000+ feet elevation, it was more than 30 degrees colder and there were a couple of feet of snow on the ground. Skiers and snowboarders were having a blast. I’ll have some photos from the tram ride and the higher elevations tomorrow and Saturday.

a closer look at the tram

A little different from my usual haunts, and I love the variety.

It was – both the ride itself and the chance to play with the camera at that distance and while moving.

It was a fun ride – great view and fascinating to watch the terrain change as we went through 4 different climate zones.

I love to ride on high tram one day but afraid of heights.

Great shots of the sky and tram.

This is particularly fun, because it’s one of the longest in the world.

Carver March 18, 2010 at 2:46 pm

I love how you can see the ground as it goes up into the sky. Good shots!

Wren March 18, 2010 at 7:32 pm

Thanks, Carver. I love the high desert and its scenery.

Oh, so you beat my Tirol post by 4,000 feet.
Okay, that’s up, up, up, AND up.

Looking forward to your pics!
