playing chicken (my world)

Why do you have chickens, I asked, hoping the answer wasn’t related food supply for raptors.

vicki with friend

No, Vicki assured me, it’s much more benign. People come to visit the raptors and they want to touch the birds. That’s not good for the education birds, but it doesn’t bother these chickens at all.

Wonderful, BFF Judy and I said, almost in unison. Hand over the chickens with the cool feathers on their feet.

They are very beautiful, very cool birds, and amazingly calm. I got to hold one, too, but I think that photo is hidden in BFF Judy’s camera, hopefully forever. As you can see, a good time was had by all.

If you’re smart, you’ll also have figured out that these are also photos of two very beautiful, very cool women. One I’ve known most of my life, one I’ve met relatively recently. Both of whose friendship I treasure. Both of whom are important components of my world.

We used to have many chickens in our back yard and we had fresh eggs every day for the kids but not any more. No chicken here.
Your photos are great and i think the chickens love the camera!!!

I think they do, too, Antigone. I had chickens, once, too. They really weren’t much trouble to keep, and I enjoyed them. Our city just passed an ordinance allowing chickens to be kept inside the city limits. We’re technically not inside the city, so not an option for us, but I am going to look around and find someone who has extra eggs to share!

Do you think all really cool women of a certain age, that age when they decide, wth? and stop dying their hair, begin to meld into one wonderful collective unconscious and look vaguely like dilapidated but simultaneously dignified bald eagles with a whacky sense of humor? I believe the missing photo of you with the chicken would confirm that. While you consider that the last three photos you have posted here all look similar, let me say: nice post! Thank you, dear friend. And for the post above this one as well.
I’m missing you and I was really grateful you shared your time and BFF with me.

I’m with you on the collective unconscious, whacky sense of humor, and dilapidated. I’m not so sure about dignified, but then I’m still maintaining my cover as a golden eagle. :)

Wonderful to have such good friends, friends that you value so highly and value you back! Love chickens btw, find it just fascinating how many different types there are, and also how many different colors of egg shells they can produce. :)
Great post.
