The beady-eye effect is much better in the larger version. Click, and you’ll see what I mean.

Wren: Love the yellow/green feet.
Love that picture!!!
Golden slippers! I love to watch them jooking seaweed with their feet as they scare the shrimps and other small critters out from their hiding places.
Beautiful and practical – what a great combination! It’s a treat to see the snowies.
Definitely beady! Great great shot.
If I were a fish, that look would make me very nervous.
Those eyes are very penetrating, but I’m particularly drawn to those magnificent bright feet at the end of those crazy black legs. What a beauty.
I’d like a pair of boots that color, wouldn’t you?
I think this is the first time I’ve ever viewed the whole of the bird! I’ve only ever seen these bandy legged creatures w/feet submerged! How color coordinated they are – lores and feet. Nice shot!
You know what else you don’t usually get to see? Stilt feet!
I don’t know what it is about Snowies. All herons and egrets have this fierce “don’t mess with me” look, but whenever I see (well, saw) a Snowy, it appeared to be particularly displeased to see me.
I think this one was displeased to see anyone without stinky fish in hand.
What a great photo. Strange to see it standing not in marsh but on paving (or bricks or whatever that flooring is!) Much better view of the amazing huge feet than one usually gets. Thanks.
Standing on the pier, not-too-coincidentally right next to a bait shop (a real one, not a sushi restaurant!). More photos from the same place tomorrow.
And those fancy feet are something else!
A well turned-out bird by all sartorial standards.
