We don’t see black vultures where I live now, so it was a particular treat to see a large group of them in Florida. This flock lives at Gatorland, and is quite acclimated to people as are all the birds there.
Got birds?

I blog here as Wren, taking the Carolina Wren as my namesake, avatar, and totem.
Wrens are bright and cheerful little birds. I hope I can be the same and brighten your day when you visit. I'm proud to call myself a nature lover and tree hugger, and hope that sharing here will contribute to bettering this world of ours and inspiring a love of nature in my visitors.
Thank you for being here, for commenting, for helping to build a strong community of nature lovers, and for doing so much for nature, for wildlife, and for people in the "real" world.

Hey Wren;
We have both black and turkey vultures in our area but don’t think I’ve ever been that close to one. Great shots!
Interesting shots of the vulture. They are not particularly pretty birds but they sure do have a place in this world cleaning up after us.
It must be pretty amazing to see them so close by.

They are such impressive birds (I think)

Vultures get too bad a rap, I think. Personally I think nothing’s more beautiful in flight. I can watch them for hours. Nice captures here!

We have a lot of vultures around here. But I don’t think they’re so acclimated to people. Great shots!
Such handsome birds! Gotta love a vulture.

impressive looking bird, good to see a species of vulture doing well, given how their numbers are declining so dramatically in Asia

Very cool looking bird…all I have ever seen is the Turkey Vulture.
The way they are advancing, Jane, I think you will start seeing them up there soon. Some places here….the BV’s outnumber the TV’s.
Lovely photos. (Lynne says they look like black whipped cream.)
Maybe they’ll arrive along with the armadillos.
Very nice shots of the Black Vulture Wren. I have only seen this bird in the Wildlife Show at Turtle Bay in Redding, California. I got some really nice views of this incredible bird as it decided to walk through the audience while the handlers urged it to return to its place. They are very cool looking birds with their wrinkled gray heads!

Excellent captures Wren! We get an occasional Black Vulture flying through in the spring, but never great looks like the photos you have.

A very interesting bird and one I have never seen.

They aren’t particularly aggressive – unless, of course, you’re dead.
