road signs in the middle of the prairie

There’s a good reason for a road sign in what appears to be the middle of nowhere: to facilitate giving directions to emergency response teams (fire, ambulance, etc). It also helps out-of-town birders who otherwise would be even more lost, but that’s beside the point.

closer look at the sign

You are here.

dirt road and sign

A street to go with the street sign.

dirt road stretching into the horizon

A road, but no sign.

wide town street

Not all the roads are in the countryside, but they all have blue sky at the end of them.

I have to say it does look a little strange with street signs in the middle of country side. It had no effect on the pretty blue skies tho.

And unfortunately, these are the very last of the North Dakota Photos.

The vistas are beautiful! Wide open spaces and bright blue skies. Very nice.

The road sign is just funny!

Yeah, it tickled me, too.

Your skies are pretty. I hope you are not experiencing extremely hot summer.

Wren August 5, 2010 at 9:11 pm

These photos are from May, and while it was rainy and there were lots of mosquitoes, it wasn’t yet hot in North Dakota. Since then we’ve had really hot, hot, humid, and even more humid weather here at home, and pretty much throughout the eastern US where many of my friends and family still are.

What huge open spaces – I would enjoy that, as I live in a very different, urban area.

I fell in love with the prairie, and, for the first time I truly understood how hard it would be to grow up there and then be happy in a city.

North Dakota is a lonesome state in a good sort of way.

Corner Garden Sue August 5, 2010 at 3:57 pm

I enjoyed your skies, signs, roads, and what was around them.
