More from Potholes and Prairies:

north dakota barn

Katdoc called this “the most photographed barn in North Dakota.” Certainly true while we birders were there!

side of barn with fence and window

There’s something about a barn that just begs to be photographed.

outbuildings

There were other interesting structures, too, such as the round building on the right. We watched a Say’s Phoebe flying in and out of the top, obviously feeding its nestlings.

house and machine shed

You can see the house in the background.

bare tree

Not all interesting structures are constructed.

That is a very cool barn – with very cool pictures!

Thanks, everyone – I’m so glad you like the barn pics. They just sort of happened, in amongst all the bird photos. A few years ago I wouldn’t have taken a photo for the sake of taking it, but I’m starting to do that more now.

Wow these are really cool building like we do not see them over here ;-) Beautiful post!

do barns always have small windows? Barn dances might be too hot. You are lucky to get to photograph such a famous barn.

What fabulous shots of gorgeous barns and wood and trees.

Barns are certainly interesting buildings.
You’ve got a nice collection of wood in these shots!

Great shots. The barns are so attractive. I love that old worn wood.

Old barns tie us to our pioneering farming forebears. Great shots!

Wren August 3, 2010 at 9:05 pm

That’s a nice thought, Pat. It hadn’t occurred to me, but it resonates.

Any trip led by Julie Zickefoose is a great time! She’s awesome as a birder and awesome fun, too.

Love the barn shots, great photos!

These are all such wonderful shots. I love old barns and you captured this one as well as other structures and landscapes so well.

My favorite is the close up of the window and fence, which I didn’t expect when I took the series.

Ewok August 2, 2010 at 4:49 pm

I agree that barns beg to be photographed and who are we to say no.

Enjoy the new week.

Wren August 3, 2010 at 9:01 pm

I like that thought. Never argue with the universe, or a building.

Beautiful series, nice details

I do LOVE barns so I can certainly understand why photographers are drawn to it. The roof lines are wonderful.

It looks like a delightful place to go birding.

Cool – I got my first Say’s Phoebe in Spring! Hope you got good pics! :)

Wren August 2, 2010 at 7:32 am

Too distant, unfortunately. These birds weren’t as acclimated to people as the ones in Florida, which makes sense if you consider the population density of the two areas.
