my world – surprise!

Lousy pictures, great bird. This green heron was sitting on the deck rail when I came home from work. I crept around the kitchen to grab the closest camera, in hopes of taking a photo or two before he took flight. It was cloudy and late in the day. I was hand-holding the camera and shooting through the glass in the back door. Under the circumstances, I had no expectations of the photos, but they remind me of seeing the bird so unexpectedly, and of all the things I love about living where we do.

Wow, I’d never expect a Green Heron on our deck like that. I think our most unusual deck bird was a Yellow-throated Warbler.
Great you were able to get some pics.

Wow Wren, what a great surprise! We had a Great Blue Heron surprise at our pond once but never a Green Heron! They are such awesome birds and one of my faves. You did well to get off as many shots as you did before it took flight.

That’s so cool to have a heron visit your deck. You captured the moment so well. I like shots like this where you get to see a wonderful surprise.

WOW!! What a TREAT!!
I love those little herons. Did he leave a poke of shite on your deck railing?

Wren September 27, 2010 at 11:36 am

More than one! But it’s a small price to pay for a close encounter of the avian kind.
