An interesting-looking bird. Looks like he’s thinking “Whaddayou lookin’ at, punk?”

Cute photo! Interesting that it is not related to the magpies nor to the larks. :-)

He looks like he’s curious and wonders what the heck you are doing there :D
Lovely catch!

Very interesting bird Wren. Is it just me or do they have quite a few black and white birds in Australia?

I think that’s more a function of the limited geographic area and urban environment, Larry. :) Or maybe the b&w birds are just slower than rest and therefore easier to photograph.

I was being facetious when I first typed the last sentence, but on reflection it makes sense that brighter colored birds would need to be faster at getting away if they wanted to pass on their genes to the next generation.

It has the same colors as the magpie we see here, but I’ve never seen our magpies stroll! Great capture of a beautiful bird.

Hmmm…not sure if this applies to magpie lark, but if you sprinkle salt on its tail, your wish will come true.

Since my wish – well, one of them – is to make another trip to Australia, it’s pretty much self-fulfilling, even if not in the traditional order.

Hi Wren, it’s a good photo and I like your caption about being out for a stroll – but – I think it’s a Magpie-lark (common name “pee-wee”) and not a Magpie!

You’re correct – thanks, Mick.

Cute, it does look like the Magpie is out for a stroll.

Now that’s what I’d call “dressed to the nines”! What an attractive bird. I just read you comment at mine – I’ve bagged mice in the past too!! At the time I had a human ‘chaser’ to team up with, and I was the ‘bag lady’ – not sure that the cats would get that whole concept!
