As part of our “High Country” day of birding, we went to Babcock State Park.
I’m told this mill is one of the most photographed sites in West Virginia. I found the water itself far more fascinating and picturesque than the building.

Scienceguy, I love West Virginia. It’s one beautiful spot after another.
No surprise here that it is so photographed. Very picturesque.
Lynne, isn’t it fun to see the different impression we all brought away from the same spot?
Con, that is so true!
Heather, it is indeed lovely, and surprisingly peaceful for so public a spot. Unfortunately, the mill was not running during our visit.
FC, doesn’t all water flow toward the bottom of the map? Florida should be full and overflowing by now.
Betsy, it was a great festival and a great group. I think we have a lot of blog friends in common.
Gee, Kyle, what gave you that idea?
Great shots of the grist mill and stream, Wren! Looks like y’all had a fantastic time at the New River festival.
Beautiful place Wren… I want to go there sometime!!!! You are the 3rd blog friend who went to that Bird Festival in West Virginia. I feel as if I got to go!!!! Thanks for sharing.
Hugs,
Betsy
Wow! It all looks food to me.
We don’t get rushing streams down here in the flatlands!
Yes, that water is entrancing, but I really dig that mill. Was it running at all while you guys were there? We camped at Babcock a few years ago, and got to see them start up the mill. Wish I could have seen them grinding some meal or flour, but oh well. Such a nice spot there.
rule #1: After photographing the “most photographed”, turn your back on it and discover the images everyone else ignores.
Isn’t it funny- I think we all took pictures of this beautiful site but every one I’ve seen is just a bit different. I think that our differing views of the whole trip are what I’m enjoying the most as we retell our stories. These are especially nice.
Mary, thanks. I think this is the one location in which our photos look most alike.
Glennis, welcome. There’s something about rushing water that is iconic for me, and I find the sound soothing.
Great series. The water makes it a stunning photo.
The building does look very picturesque, but I agree the flow od water so fast and rushing leaping and dancing is very exciting.
