Beauty, color, fantasy – what more can you ask of a bird?

Such a elegant bird. I think peacocks wandering about is such a nice touch. Not practical where I live, but a great fantasy.

Peacocks are beautiful birds, but I’ve known a few that could be more than a little
meanterritorial. Nice shot, Wren.I can believe that – they look like they should be vain and self-centered, whether they are or not. The ones at the sanctuary are quite used to people and also quite well fed, so mostly they ignored us.
I came back to see what other Aussie pics you were putting up and must say that there have been peacocks at that sanctuary for many years – I have photos from there well before digital days!
It must a safe and comfortable place for them – I suppose they could leave if they wanted to, but I didn’t see any signs they would.
It’s nice that they’ve been welcome there for a long time.
Peacocks are such beautiful birds, we inherited one when we bought the farm. He spent many happy years with us echoing his great call from the roof ridge and fouling up our water system. We drank it anyway and built up stronger immune systems.
I remember “my” free range peacock making similar announcements from a nearby roof. Not a sound that’s easy to forget. As far as I know, he didn’t befoul the water, but perhaps my immune system is stronger than I know.

Did you see any females around, Wren? They’re all brown; plain in comparison to the man, but they would have been beautiful if there were a species of their own!
I only saw males this time. I think i have photos of some females from another encounter, I’ll have to take a look for them.

My sister-in-law (outside of Seattle) has a resident peacock on her farmette. I understand Flannery O’Connor kept dozens of them.
I lived in very rural Maryland once upon a time, and there were feral peacocks there as well. They make quite a racket!

I think the last time I saw a peacock was somewhere in the outback? I can’t remember which outback. Or was it in an Aviary somewhere?
Is old age catching up with me? Oh I don’t mind admitting.
I was in Australia when I took the photo, but I’m back home now – plotting how I can arrange another trip there.
