I like it! I miss this type of northern gardening- the one with seasons. :-) Although we do have a wonderful butterfly garden here and lots and lots of butterflies. We grow the southern form of milkweed and at any given time I find monarchs all over it, in all stages. The caterpillars eat it right down to nothing and then we find the cocoons hanging in various places and the milkweed grows right back to flower anew.We also grow a vine called Dutchmans Pipe as well as a flourishing passion flower vine and those host countless butterflies.

I LOVED the Alaska eagles- so many, so regal, so easy to watch there. Nice photo. Whis I was going to be at BlogHer to lend birding support but you’ll have fun and find a good small crowd of nature bloggers.

Thanks for your visit to my blog. I came across last night to say thanks and got side tracked into the bird blogs (as you do)! They reminded me that I had taken a photo of a lovely bird at tennis last Tueday, so I posted it on my blog last night! Enjoying you bird photos here.

Thanks, Annie. Yes, I, too, do get distracted easily by birds, flowers, good photos, and cute animals.

I have had great success with the butterfly bush and hostas as well.

The phlox are just starting to bloom, and the joe pye and cardinal flower have buds.

We have a lot of hostas in the yard, and some lilies, lavendar, and a few things I can’t identify that the pollinators seem to enjoy.

Good luck on your butterfly garden..What types of plants are you growing?

RIght now I have Joe Pye Weed, Woodland Phlox, Cardinal Flower, and a type of thyme.

If these flourish, I’ll want to add milkweed and butterfly weed.
