Nature Interlude


I love watching the pond go through its seasonal changes. The picture above was taken on Thanksgiving day. The photo shows the skim of ice forming on the pond surface.

We’d already had our first dusting of snow and I was convinced that winter had arrived in earnest.

Sure enough, a few days later more snow arrived.

But it immediately began to retreat.

A month later, we’re back where we started: frost on the ground, a skim of ice on the pond, and patches of open water. If you look closely, you can see a goose walking on the ice. Since there are still patches of open water, I am surprised the ice is strong enough to support its weight. Still, if comes to sink or swim, a goose can always swim.
